The Lotto Review

The Lotto by BAILEY PERRIE is an emotional and personal anthem about regret and lost love, focusing on the concept of your love interest choosing someone else. There is a palpable sense of pain and regret in PERRIE’s voice. You get the sense that she is not just singing the words but truly feeling them. With that being said, the execution is also excellent. The vocals feel confident and well put together. Her breath control is also amazing, delivering power and energy as thoroughly as she delivers the softer more intimate moments.

The track ebbs and flows beautifully, soaring through the chorus and shrinking in the verses, this mixture of the dull ache of loss and the intense pain of regret feels like a realistic and vivid portrayal of that level of emotional pain. The lyrics about asking what if, and wondering about her own decisions and actions also felt relatable and honest. It is almost as if we’re getting a direct interpretation of PERRIE’s uncut thoughts and there is a beauty in that honesty. The guitars are another highlight. They have a bright and shiny timbre that elevates the subtleties in PERRIE’s voice. There is also an ethereal synth that contributes to the backbone of the track’s energy. It plays a melody that contrasts the vocals. Although the vocal is still very much the star of the show, this synth does a great job of providing a sense of diversity within the mix and juxtaposing the traditional singer-songwriter musical elements that are the foundation of this track. This element improves the song’s deep and complex tapestry providing richness and amplifying the emotional energy.  The percussion is bold and heavy, drawing stark lines around the melody and providing the structure required to allow the other sonic elements to dance around it. 

Overall, I’m impressed with this track’s ability to convey heartache through its lyrics, instrumentation and delivery. I’m excited to see what PERRIE does next.
